Fit Pregnancy #Bumpdate: 23 Weeks
The weeks keep passing by! Yesterday I hit 23 weeks.
Baby is the size of: The websites were conflicting this week; I got large mango, ear of corn, and bunch of grapes. 11-12 inches long and abut 17.5 ounces.
Baby’s movements: I can sure tell baby is taking up a lot more space in there! His kicks, punches, and rolls are feeling a lot stronger. I was watching my tummy once, and I’m quite sure I even saw a little bulge from the outside. Jesse still hasn’t felt it though; every time he puts his hand on my tummy, baby stops moving!
How I’m feeling: Tired and hungry. The last few weeks my sleep has really suffered. It takes me hours to fall asleep and I can’t get comfortable. I have very crazy dreams pretty much every single night. Jesse and I have gotten quite a few laughs when I describe them the next morning. I’ve tried two methods: trying to wake early (6-6:30) and taking a midday nap, or letting myself sleep in (7:30-8:30) and skipping the nap. Letting my body get all the sleep it wants in the morning seems to work better. I am more alert and productive when I am awake versus when I try to get up early and be productive. And taking midday naps seems to further mess with my sleep cycle, so I try to avoid it. Although, there are some days when it’s just what I need to do. I’m normally a person who like to wake early and get lots done every day, so it’s taken a bit of a mental adjustment to realize that my body has sleep needs that have to be considered right now. At first it felt very lazy to sleep in, but I realize that doing so makes my waking hours much happier and more productive. I do not remember feeling this tired when I was pregnant with Camden. Although I am still working out hard and chasing around a 3-year-old, two things I didn’t do with his pregnancy. Supposedly baby is in a state of rapid growth and putting on body fat, which can cause you to feel an increase in appetite. I have definitely had an increased appetite the past few weeks compared with earlier. Despite this, it’s still going great. As I lay down in bed at an early 8:30, I sleepily remind myself it’s better than hugging a toilet bowl and throwing up all night.
What I’ve been eating: I’ve indulged a little more than usual these past few weeks thanks to increased hunger, but the majority of my meals are still nutrient dense and calorie-appropriate. Eggs and oats for breakfast as well as Kodiak power cakes are still my go-to. I’ve been getting plenty of fruit as well. Getting adequate fiber makes such a difference in the my digestive health. I made clean turkey meatloaf for the first time, and it was fantastic. It was definitely something I see myself making a lot in the near future.
Workouts: Still going strong with 3-4 workouts per week. Despite rocking a softer appearance, I have been pleasantly surprised with the amount of muscle mass I’ve been able to maintain. I feel like my core is also very strong for being 23 weeks pregnant, which is undoubtedly why I’m not rocking a big belly yet.
Dr. Appointment: I had an ultrasound at 21 weeks. I scheduled it for early morning and Jesse came along and went to work afterwards. We learned the gender and have told our families and friends. I’m waiting to announce it on social media and the blog until I have a cute picture to use. I got a call back from my doctor’s office the next week and they informed me I would need to come in for a follow-up ultrasound in about 6 weeks. Baby was rather uncooperative and squished against the placenta, and they didn’t get as good of pictures as they wanted for baby’ spine. I also have a low-lying placenta, and they want to check it in six weeks to make sure it has grown up and away from the cervix.
Thoughts and Reflections:I am so thrilled to know the gender. Jesse and I went to Sioux Falls that weekend and bought a few things, including the take-home outfit. We also have the name decided! We are keeping that part a surprise. I am looking forward to buying more things for baby. It’s starting to feel pretty real, and I find myself daydreaming about going into labor and meeting this little person. These last few months are going to fly by. We have a packed and fun-filled schedule throughout November and December, including my birthday and holidays, so February is going to be here before we know it. I’m so happy with how this pregnancy has gone. I feel fit, healthy, and strong. I’m so thankful God has blessed me with such health. Here’s to 17 more weeks!
